Why Hannah's House?

Hannah’s House is a registered not for profit organisation dedicated to providing services that improve the quality of life for all Western Australian children with life-limiting conditions and their families.WA is not alone in needing a service like Hannah’s House. Already three similar organisations exist on the east coast, providing an extensive range of services for families of children diagnosed with life-limiting conditions. They are Bear Cottage in NSW, Very Special Kids in Victoria and Hummingbird House in Queensland.

Internationally, the Children’s Hospice model is recognised as a successful approach to care for families and children with life-limiting conditions. With Australia’s population of 23 million people, there are only three such centres whereas in the UK, with a population of almost 66 million, there are now over 40 similar centres for children.

WA too needs a service that focuses on the care and support of these precious children and their families. Hannah’s House is currently providing in-home respite care, with the vision to build a family support centre which caters for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the child and family; enhances the quality of life for the child and provides support for the whole family. A place that will help parents manage the journey from diagnosis through to end-of-life, in some cases.
