A break is not a regular occurrence for Hannah’s House parents Shellie and Dave. Their daughter Sophie lives with Dravet Syndrome and requires 24/7 care, meaning even taking time out to shower or have a cup of tea is a challenge. So taking a holiday? Well, that’s usually just a pipe dream.
But thanks to a very special donor, Hannah’s House was recently able to gift these two awesome parents a 3-night trip to Rottnest Island, including a stay in a Beachfront Room at the Samphire Hotel. During their stay, Hannah’s House staff cared for Sophie at home, allowing Shellie and Dave to truly relax knowing Sophie was safe and sound.
Here’s what Shellie had to say about the experience:
“Dave and I had an amazing time over at Rottnest Island for a short break provided by Hannah’s House. Neither of us had been to Rottnest for over 10 years and were blown away with all the changes the Island have made. We were also blessed with beautiful weather for the first 2 days and only a little wet on our final full day. We hired e-bikes and rode all around the island and took in places and views we’d never taken the time to see before… back in the day Rotto was just all about the pub!!
We ate beautiful food, drank fabulous cocktails, had sleep-ins each morning and really enjoyed spending time together without any distractions. It was so so awesome to be reminded of how much fun we can have together and that we really are best friends. We are so grateful for the gift provided by Hannah’s House, the extra nursing hours provided and for all the organisation you did for us. We would never have planned this getaway so seamlessly without it.
Upon our return home, Sophie wouldn’t speak with me for a few hours as she was cross me with that I didn’t take her away for us. We promised her she could come next time and she was happy with that and started loving me again. Bless her cotton socks!
Thank you so much again for the fabulous getaway, we had a wonderful time.”
