Lifting Up Tracey & Grace

“Before support for Grace began, I felt completely exhausted and emotionally drained,” shares Tracey.

“It often felt like I was living under a dark cloud, isolated and very stressed and anxious. I was so overwhelmed.”

Two-year-old Grace has epilepsy seizure disorder, global developmental delay, swallowing and eating difficulties, and sleep apnoea – and she is still undergoing further neurology assessments, as well as genetic testing.

As a single mum, Tracey was struggling by the time she discovered Hannah’s House online in 2025.

“I was getting very little sleep, constantly worrying about Grace’s nighttime oxygen and pulse monitoring alarms, worried about her having seizures and not being able to turn off,” she explains.

Even though Tracey’s mum was a big help, Grace’s complex medical needs meant it was hard for Tracey to be away from her.

“I had very little trust in leaving Grace with anyone and was unable to return to work, adding financial pressure,” Tracey says.

“It was an isolating and challenging period.”

Pro Bono Hours Easing Financial Pressure

While Grace was granted a small amount of support hours through the NDIS, it was clear to Hannah’s House that the family could benefit from being gifted more assistance.

The not-for-profit organisation began sending a support worker into the home at no cost, made possible thanks to the generosity of its donors.

“Having the additional pro bono hours on top of Grace’s small amount of NDIS money has made a significant difference as it has allowed me to return to work, which has eased some of the financial pressure and given me a sense of stability again,” Tracey states.

“It also means I have practical help when attending appointments for Grace.

“Overall, the support has eased both the emotional and financial strain – and has made managing Grace’s care much more sustainable.”

Hannah’s House: Care, Comfort & Joy

Tracey says her experience with Hannah’s House has reflected the proverbial saying ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’.

“Something that really stands out to me is the genuine care, support, and compassion shown by the entire team at Hannah’s House – and not just for Grace but for me as a mother,” she says.

“The thoughtful, personal touches like offering a masseuse at Playgroup or organising a Mum’s Movie Night with special treats make such a difference and shows a deep understanding of what families go through.”
