Family & Carer Support Program

At Hannah’s House, we support families through every step of their journey.

At Hannah’s House, we believe that families caring for children with complex needs deserve dedicated support, connection and respite. Thanks to the generous support of the Stan Perron Foundation, we are proud to introduce our Family & Carer Support Program, designed to empower families with essential resources, practical assistance and a strong sense of community.

Supporting the Village

Caring for a child with highly complex needs can be an overwhelming experience, affecting not just the child but the entire family unit. Families often face significant challenges, including:

  • Emotional and physical exhaustion from caregiving responsibilities
  • Increased mental health stress and feelings of isolation
  • Frequent hospital readmissions due to fluctuating health needs
  • Financial strain due to difficulties in maintaining employment
  • Struggles with maintaining stable housing, food security and family relationships

The program aims to address these challenges by offering early intervention, practical in-home assistance, community support and referral pathways to ensure families feel less alone and more equipped to navigate their journey.

How We Help

Referral Pathways

We connect families to a broad range of external services, including:

  • Mental health and counselling support
  • Financial counselling and assistance
  • Housing support services
  • Carer and young carer programs for siblings and other family members

Early Access and Intervention

We provide families with timely support through direct referrals from key hospital partners, including King Edward Memorial Hospital’s Mother and Baby Unit and Perth Children’s Hospital. By intervening early, we help families access the assistance, resources and guidance they need to enhance their well-being and caregiving capacity.

Community Support

We foster a strong sense of community by connecting families with:

  • Hannah’s House Playtime Program, where caregivers can meet others facing similar challenges
  • Small grants and food support
  • Social events such as our Family Christmas Party, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations, offering opportunities to build friendships and support networks

Practical Assistance

Our skilled support staff and volunteers deliver hands-on support in the family home, tailored to each family’s unique needs. This may include:

  • Caring for children while caregivers rest or take a break
  • Assistance with meal preparation
  • Engaging children in play activities
  • Helping with light household tasks (maintenance, not cleaning services)
  • Providing companionship and a listening ear
